So I´ll start an official topic. I can´t wait for it to start, only two weeks to go. We´ll have great parties for the three German games :)

For a start I want to ask you who will win the tournament. I´ll just post the most likely nations to win (as far as I´m concerned). Have a go ;)

The poll will be closed in 2 weeks with the opening match and we´ll have further polls after that :P

Of course Germany wins!

As Gary Linecker said, soccer is a stupid game, in the end always the Germans win ;)

And as we say in German: "Dat is ne Turniermannschaft" They always play better in tournaments than in friendly matches :P

Obviously, i'll be cheering England on... (and kicking furniture in frustration if they let me and my nation down).

England have a fairly good chance. With or without Rooney, they have a strong first 11 and very good back up in defense. A lot will depend on the performances of Gerrard, Beckham and Lampard in the midfield, as well as the fitness of Owen up front. Plus we have two of the most exciting "unknown" youngsters in our squad who could really cause other teams damage in given an opportunity... watch out for Lennon and Walcott people.

Yeah, in the end, i'd say Brazil, Czech Republic, Argentina, England and Portugal all have a real chance of winning it. And of course, France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Holland will all be difficult teams to come up against for any nation looking to win the competition.

And we should do a predictions game like we did for Euro 2004 - i'd be willing to do the scoring if you don't have the time, Hennes. :D

I guess it´ll be tough for England, without Rooney and Owen :D
I´d go for Sweden in their group.
Anyway, England should pray there are no penalties :P
Sure we can do the predictions game :D

Go for Sweden in group B? Oooh, not sure about that. Sweden are tough outfit but apparently they have problems up front.

Rooney will play a part in the later stages, but Owen should be fully fit. Plus, Crouch has had a great season and Gerrard and Lampard have scored a bucket full between them. Then there's Beckham and Gerrard's threat from set pieces, and the the ariel presence of Terry or Campbell (if he's playing). So goals shouldn't be a problem for England, even without Rooney.

And Hennes, mate. We've stuffed up in so many penalty shoot outs that one has to go our way soon - law of averages. Let's just hope Sven has the tactical know-how (like Rafa Benitez) to make sure the players on the pitch at the end of extra time can put the ball in the next from 12 yards. Yet to be seen.

@pjad_uk: Law of average? That would preassume that the changes in penalties are equal. They aren´t when England takes part. They always have past games on their mind and they´ll lose again. That´s the law of English players failing in penalties, not the law of average :P
But you´re right, England has a very strong midfield. Gerrard and Lampard can always score.

Penalties is pretty much a lottery, Hennes. The likes of Owen, Gerrard and Beckham are all capable of scoring from 12 yards. They are all capable of missing too. Trust me, if England are in a penalty shoot out this summer they could easily win it. (For example, would you have backed Liverpool to beat AC Milan on penalties last year - with Vladmir Smicer, Cisse and Hamann with a broken foot scoring for Liverpool and Pirlo and the "oh so, unstoppable" Shevchenko missing for Milan? I think not.)

Records and historical patterns are made to be broken and changed, my friend.
