Beginner

Hey!

I would like to make some music and would like to know any software that is good for the beginners. If you can advise me any, I'd be grateful.

I've been looking on this sub-forum for some softwares and I noticed Music Maker in some topics - is it good or too difficult for beginners?

You can also suggest programs that can be bought, but it's better if it can be downloaded.

Thank you!

I recommend FLStudio 4.5 (www.flstudio.com) (also known as Fruity Loops).
It has a very user-friendly interface and is pretty easy to learn, and is just as powerful as any other software such as Reason(www.propellerheads.se). It also supports use of VSTis (plugins, such as new synths, etc.), which for example Reason, does not.

one thing that really sucks with FLS though, is the quality of the samples/sounds/synths that comes with the program. You may want to buy some new sample cd's or VSTis if you want to produce more "serious" stuff. I don't know what kind of music you are planning on doing, but Ueberschall has a lot of really good sample cd's for all genres.
If youre into trance, i suggest getting "Ueberschall Techno & Trance Essentials", "Future Trance Anthems 2 (Not from UBS) and "Mega Dance Drums 2" (Not UBS). Those should probably satisfy anyones needs heh

None of this is for free though, so you're either gonna have to blame it on "being a student with lack of cash" and go find the stuff elsewhere, or open your wallet and pay, like everyone else *cough*

Producing can be really fun, good luck with whatever you choose..

Thank you!

i'm up wiht sr-27 :)
fruityloops is not a very difficult program, but just like sr said: the standardsamples and sounds sucks in that program :?
i'm using flstudio only as the base for songs, any other sounds and drums i get from vstplugins (a very good plug-in for trance/techno sounds is reFX Vanguard (www.refx.net))

Reason is also a very good program but more difficult than FLStudio

Music Maker serie is not that good: you work with standard samples and there's just a little bit space for own samples/riffs (you can only make melodies with integrated synths etc)

Good Luck :D

I would recommend flstudio 5 for beginners. Reason is also good, I am really beginning to like Reason more and more, my newest track "Crystal Sword" is made with Reason. the mastering needs so much work though. Not smooth enough for me.

In the future, I think anyone who is still doing technical work with music, will be using programs like Cubase, Sonar, or Logic. Those are the industry leaders in professional music production and sequencer software.

I started using Cubase a little, just to learn it. I am sure it's easy once you figure out the technical aspects (routing, mastering, mixing).

Programs I would stay away from are: Ejay (sucks, I had a free ejay program with a magazine I bought...sucks), Orion (Tried it once, hard to switch between patterns, good generators and samplers though), and Reacktor (it's not a production program, only good for using as a vst really...and you need some good ram - probably more than 1 gigabyte...to run music apps at a decent speed).

As for vsts, avoid free ones. Take out a bit of money, or look around. I've spent hundreds in vsts, got some decent ones to use. Music is an expensive hobby and career. It really is. I've spent hundreds on books just to learn more about music. Just books alone is a high expense. But, I love it.
Shout-outs go to: SLK, Hard C. Pusher, Soul Train, Dream Guardians, Deepforces, Ic3m4n, Trance-Atlantic, and N.E.O.N. Project. Thank you for your supports and feedback.

well, i must say that Dance Ejay 6 is not that bad...i use the samples from it  good vocalsamples

i only use the samples out of it, not the program itself, its good for hobbyists who don't know anything about music. they can put some samples together and, voila a new song is born :?

about rfx vanguard, i really dislike that vst. i know many people like it, but i just hate way you can *almost* always tell if it's a vanguard or not. it's just something about the sound it makes..

FREE VST used by alot of people is Superwave.p8
it's pretty damn good for being freeware (eats up cpu, though).

a commercial version was released some time ago which is also pretty sweet but you have to pay ofcourse.

you're right about Vanguard, there are lots of effects on it (delay reeverb etc) but there are good sounds between them :P

the commercial version of superwave p8 is a damn good program :!: :!: there are many sounds in it and an arpeggiator :D
the price was not that high, i paid €60,- for it

Thanks for your help guys, but there's a small problem....
I can not get FLStudio nowhere in town. :?
I've checked all music shops/stores and they didn't have it.They said they had it, but because it was not selling good, they removed it. :?

There's also no Reason. The most common programs that you can buy are called Soundpool, I think I'll have to buy those.

Get producer edition for flstudio....any other version below that can't be good....the most basics of what you need to make decent electronic music are presented in flstudio producer edition...I really like Reason though.

I use FruityLoops Studio Producer edition 4.52, with the following plugins:

VSTi:
z3ta+ (just awesome!)
Pentagon (just awesome!)
Juno X2 (hardcore leads)
Superwave (trancey strings)
Rouge (acid-like frytones)
PlasticCZ (very good for trance plucks)
Minimoog (old-style sounds)
Audiorealism Bassline (TB-303)

FX:
Sonic Foundry dynamic compressor
Sonic Foundry vibrato & noise gate

huh? i don't know 'Rouge'. What kind of synth is it? and from which producer? :D

Superwave is a good VST especially the commercial versions (trance and pro edition of Superwave P8) but the free one is good to begin with
