German Movies

Can anyone recommend some great German movies for me to watch?? I really am interested in Germany, and would like to see some more of their films! I recently watched "The White Ribbon", which won an Oscar at the Academy Awards last year! :D I also watched a movie about a year ago, and it was about when the Berlin wall was still up. An East German officer? was assigned to spy on this writer and his wife, and ended up protecting them from getting in trouble for using a typewriter and writing controversial stuff etc. It ended up being really good! :D
So if anyone could recommend some other great recent German language films that I could look into, it would be much appreciated! :D

Der Untergang (Downfall) should be the best german movie ever, nex to Das Boot.
You might give it a try, even if you don't like all that Nazi/H!tler stuff.
Then there is Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, which is decent, too.
Good Bye Lenin is okay.

There are many german comedies, which I can recommend.
But these are (mostly) all in german and there isn't any dub or subtitles...
If that's not a problem: Try Werner Beinhart!, Voll Normaaal, Otto - Der Film, Der Schuh des Manitu...

Neverending Story is a german/american co-production.

btw: WTH? H!tler is censored? 8|

I recommend Keinohrhasen (2007) :) Nice and romantic comedy. And I really like Til Schweiger.

Oh if you like dramas rent "Nirgendwo in Afrika" its about a family that moves to South Africa to escape the Nazis. Its a wonderful film about survival, acceptance, and what it means to be a family.

No I don't mind the Hilter/Nazi stuff in movies... Most of the movies and documentaries and stuff they make and show in America all generally has to do with that kind of stuff anyway... Like the Tom Cruise movie "Valkyrie" etc. (Nazi's are even in Indiana Jones!) Der Untergang and Das Boot I will for sure seek out! :) :whistling:

Thanks aganim and everyone for the great suggestions! I will definitely look into them! :D <---Very happy now!

I searched/read around for Downfall and Das Boot, and I have seen Downfall!! :D I think I saw it almost 3-ish years ago... I think it was on HBO or something... It was good :) That's the kind of movies they should have shown us in school, instead of the Tony Danza Berlin Wall one... I might also have seen Das Boot, but I would have to watch it again to make sure... I remember seeing a similar movie I think before...

A nice film is 'Dinosaurier' which I saw last year. Old people start a revolution against business people. Really funny with a serious background story.

As far as I'm aware, the only movies made in Germany are porn flicks.
Whenever people agree with me I always feel I must be wrong.

Der Schuh des Manitu is a very funny movie. I rofled
Riding with me is my friend R.J.Jordan,
Knowing the rules aint part of his program,
Finding the right tune that fits the track,
Might be pretty hard cuz he's f_cked on crack!

Start the match and find the station
Reach what you can and party the nation,
A? Hey! Whatcha gonna say?
I automate the sequence and speed for my getaway
Take it to the edge, there's nowhere to hide,
And call up the crew; let's go for a joyride!

Let's go for a joyride!

wouldnt confirm this. german movie market is a very unqie one with brilliant movies. i can confirm that german comedy movies are very lame. but germany produces brilliant "serious" movies, prime exmples are movies such as "Das Leben Der Anderen / The Others" or "Downfall".
