Where's the "MC" H.P. Baxxter?!

Oh yeah, nothing like a nice cup of whining on a wednesday morning :)

I've been reading the reports and comments about the Stuff The Turkey tour, and I'm sorry to say that I'm beyond disappointed. What happened to the Radical MC H.P.?? I saw a lot of video footage from old tours back in the 90s, even festival gigs... he added so much to the show by those improvised lyrical phrases. Look at Habanera on the Encore DVD. So much better than the album version with those few added lines! I remember my first concert in 2002, he dropped a few lines on Greatest Beats, that was so nice to hear! Or the footage from 1997 where he put lyrics on Back In Time. Pure awesomeness that was.

And now?

"Are you ready to rock? ...kick some ass? ...hardcore techno music?"
"Dedicated to you ... you are the Posse!"

Nothing else. The same exact phrases on _every_ _fscking_ _concert_. This has got to be a very bad joke. It's like he's holding himself to a pre-written script that every show has to align to. This is not and MC, this is an actor.

Look what's going on. A bloke buys the "Live In Hamburg" DVD in May 2010, and in December he gets exactly the same stuff. Same tracklist, same visuals, even with the same phrases between tracks. I'm so disappointed that they came to this when it comes to "LIVE" apprearances. One of the things that kept me listening to them was H.P. 's lyrical talent - the extraordinary lyrical twist he put in the album tracks. After 17 years he still writes awesome lines on the songs, why can't he do the same on concerts? Just a few lines would be enough to shake up the whole feeling.
Now I'd never leave them because of this, but it makes me a bit sad, you know...

For the fanatics of the forum: I know you can explain everything, and you could even twist my words to say that this whole thing is good as is, but please! Don't make total idiots of yourselves by writing bullsh1t. There's no excuse for this. This is utter laziness.

Hard to say, but of course you are right. He's an actor, but sometimes he plays his role so bad, that possible to see he takes no interest in what he is doing. This was happened many years ago, it wasn't 2010.

I have no doubt he IS enjoying what he's doing :) He's so energetic on stage, that's why I don't know why he dropped the "real" MC thing.

It's true. I also noticed that almost every concert is almost according to a sort of pre-written script. He in the past added far more "new" stuff in between songs, or even in songs. But occasionally he still does "Surfing Bird", like in Berlin on the IFA open-air this summer. And in Bremen he made 'advertisement' for the huge gig in Hamburg 2011 in the form of "You'd better be there ! :D ", something he didn;t do in Stuttgart for example..... but the fact they don't play many instrumentals on concerts, and when they do, it's in HP's breaks...which in the end doesn't give much opportunities to improvise lyrics. But he could do some more stuff in between the tracks maybe ....... hard to say really..........
But this tour he really highly enjoyed the concerts, one could see that  He had so much energy

KInda having two different discussions going on simultaneously so I'm finding it challenging to put what I want to say into words. :P

First of all;

Quoted

I know you can explain everything

Since when have the fanatical segment of the community been able to rationally explain anything? Don't give credit where it's not due, Imre. God.

I saw some of the Stuff The Turkey tour videos and his repetitious shouts intermittently between songs - but didn't really think anything of it at the time. Now that you mention it, I suppose it is kinda lazy that he no longer improvises in the moment. And being that they usually drink and that beforehand, you expect to hear all sorts of original randomness that could potentially make the live experience more exciting. I know if I was on stage and buzzed like they usually get themselves in the preparation phase I'd naturally shake things up a little. The only explanation is that H.P. has a made a decision not to bother with it any more. Perhaps he finds it the concerts and songs more enjoyable the more faithfully the track is performed.

I agree with Imre.
The crew got totally lazy and commercial in the last 2 years. After JAOTW's success, they thought they can make success with anything. In the charts it seems it's true with UTROTT, but it's a fact that a high percent of real fans who want the real Scooter to come back, also bought the album and that brang them to the charts. Also they are hard trend followers so they rip too much well-known melodies. The 12 tracks on UTROTT all sampled other melodies. HP says in interviews that it's all right because people buy their albums and they are successful. When an interviewer asks HP about his favourite Scooter albums, his answer is full of albums which charted on #1 or #2. But nothing which is not so successful. Always the well-charted songs are the most overplayed.
And the concerts are really not live. No live parts, always the same tracklist, and WHAT THE F'UCK DOES A LAPTOP DO ON A GIG??? :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: I also agree about the fanatic thing. So annoying.
It's horrible. Most likely, they still have their creativity, but they don't want to use it. And I hope someone from their crew will read this topic.
Feel the energy inside!

alright everybody, I'm officially joining the whining choir.

One of the things I liked a lot about Encore was the lyrics in R U :-) H.P.'s MC stuff during that track raises its quality a lot. Also, the silly stuff between tracks has worsened.

If the stadium techno inferno is going to be Scooter's biggest concert ever, why not let it be the concert with the most ever live parts?

I'm also joining the whining choir in the Imre's other whining topic.

However, I'm defo waiting eagerly for spring

whine (hw<img src="http://img.tfd.com/hm/GIF/imacr.gif" align="absbottom" />n, w<img src="http://img.tfd.com/hm/GIF/imacr.gif" align="absbottom" />n)
v. whined, whin·ing, whines
v.intr.
1. To utter a plaintive, high-pitched, protracted sound, as in pain, fear, supplication, or complaint.
2. To complain or protest in a childish fashion.
3. To produce a sustained noise of relatively high pitch: jet engines whining.
v.tr.
To utter with a whine.
n.
1. The act of whining.
2. A whining sound.
3. A complaint uttered in a plaintive tone.

No - I don't think it's any of those things.

And complaining? Are you serious?

It's purely just a dose of criticism. ?(

Except "complaining" and "whining" aren't synonyms. They're two entirely different things - so therefore shouldn't be used interchangeably.

I did notice the lack of originality between tracks. In fact it was exactly the same as on the Hamburg DVD as a couple of us were "HPing" along as we knew exactly what was coming next.

Personal opinion is so what, yes, it would be great if he had meaningful discussions between each track but does anybody actually care? I just keep myself amused wondering what lyrics he will forget next as it usually happens a few times each show.
Whenever people agree with me I always feel I must be wrong.

In my opinion scooter started to change this way after releasing TQIWITQ as it was a hit as the Album JAOTW was. Since this time they changed in my opinion. It seems they get more and more disinterested to their fans.
Since the UTROTT Album my interest in scooter became smaller as I started to realise what cheap way they choosed to produce a new album for their so called "Fans"
I am feeling a bit pranked since UTROTT :(

Since the beginning of beeing a fan of scooter I knew that scooter is kind of a cover band with many many influences from other artists but what they did with the UTROTT - Album is a bit lousy. I still love this album but it seems scooter had almost no work in recording and producing this album due to the many "covers". It is a bit respectless what they did to Technoboy. UTROTT seems to be produced in a rush, without own ideas having only the sales in mind.

Although the latest concerts have been planned very very very well (and I mean this in a negativ way) I loved the UTROTT Tour!

Maybe he just doesn't want to take the risk of forgetting (confusing) the lyrics.
It's one thing to mix up lyrics on a not recorded concert, but on a recorded gig-it is different, maybe he has some trauma from Hamburg 2010 DVD when he confused the lyrics one time too many-and decided to stick to the script for a while and see how it goes.

But yes,H.P's MCing/adding lyrics to existing ones or to instrumentals are what make the live stuff so special.
