Scooter and German Peoples

Hello,

I often wanted to open this topic but everytime when I wanted to open it I thought "No, thats not so interesting" but finally I open it because I think it is worth to talk / write about:

Scooter is well known in germany and one of the most successfull music artist in germany and next to Rammstein one of the few music export successes.
in germany peoples, the press and media says: Scooter is a strange phenomen: Either you hate it or you love it. There is nothing between.

Now to the main topic:

Everytime I am asking peoples whether they are listening to Scooter or not the answers are always the same: "No way!!!!!"

BUT

Why does almost everyboday I know does have the newest Scooter Tracks on MP3 Player or on PC or even as a CD?

The best example: I often asked peoples the question and they said "no way". But when beeing at home of this peoples I often discover Scooter on their PC 's or in their CD-Shelfs. One time a working mate said also "No way that I lsiten to Scooter" but when switching trough his MP3-Player I found the newest Scooter Songs.

Due to this I got more and more the feeling that many peoples in germany are listening to Scooter but they think it is a shame to tell it.

Last Year I read in a Magazine that Scooter is by far the band with the most amount of secret/hidden listeners in germany.

Why is it a shame for the german peoples to say that they are listen to Scooter? I s it only germany or also in other countries?

I can't find the answer :?

I think, it's easy to answer. Many people are too scary to say, that they like Scooter's music, because the lyrics in almost every track have no sense. And you know, when you hear the radio channels here, you will recognise, that the "DJs" (moderators) only play music with lyrics, which have a sense (message).

It's the same in The Netherlands, when I say that I'm a fan of Scooter everyboy laughs, and says: "Hyper Hyper, oh what a German accent that man had in his English language".
After that they ask if they still exist because they don't believe me, because Scooter hasn't had much succes the last year's in The Netherlands. And they laught that the music is crap. But are shocked when I say they still exist and still have much succes. And when I tell them how much singles and albums Scooter has made, they start to respect them a litle more.

But this doesn't matter me, I'm proud to say that I'm a fan of Scooter, no matter what other people think of me or say to me about it. I always say it and am never embarrased about it :P

I was laughed at in a record store by the saleswoman when buying Ramp!. And I have also a friend who sings the Scooter songs in a silent way when he listens to them in my car or in my friend's partyroom and he has also some Scooter songs on his self-made CDs. But when I ask him if he likes a new Scooter track he always says: "Go away with your dirt." On parties or in clubs I sometimes ask the DJs to play Scooter tracks, but they alsways tell me: "Later, when the people are drunk." And when the DJs finally play Scooter some people shout something like: "Hypa hypa", "Scooter yeah!" or "How much is the fish?" trough the whole song.
Most people like the melodies and the shouts but they don't tell that to other persons because HP's shouts seem too primitive for a "normal person with a normal taste". But these days there is a change: German ghetto hip hop is very primitive too and songs like "Das rote Pferd" or "Cowboy und Indianer" reach top10 in Germany, so I often see teenagers who listen to "The Question?".
In my opinion it is a very poor attitude to listen to something on the one hand and to talk bad about it on the other hand. Scooter can't be so bad if most people like them secretely.

Indeed, I really don't know why people are ashamed to admit that they like them if they as you say are secretly listen to them. :!:

Yes. :D
I think the same.

I can not explain it so good in English but I will try, maybe this with to be ashamed is more an "age thing".
I am older and so I know many older people.
Many from them like the one or other song, some maybe like general no electronic music, but this is ok and another thing.
But I did not know someone who would say it is embarassing to hear it.

I think to be ashamed is only by some very young people. Some from them only like what most other young people like, if one from them say it is embarassing all think it must be so.
Music style change often, in the moment by young people, special by boys it is not so popular to hear electronic music, maybe they mean they must hear Hip Hop to be in.

Our generation have heard electronic music from the beginning and music which exist before and was a bit in this style too, like Kraftwerk, Tangerin Dream and Pink Floyd.
So electronic music is more normal for us.

I can not understand how people like Hip Hop for me it is no music it is only "fast speaking" most songs did not have a melody.

But for me also exist some music which were embarassing to hear
German folk music and some German "Schlagersänger".

Don't forget those 14 year old german kids who stand on the concerts and chant "dub-dub-dub". Even I feel embarrased that I'm a Scooterfan when I see those maggots.

Young people listen to music that's populair.
One year ago my school was full of people wearing shirts with "jumping is not a crime" They followed the trend. Now the trend is over, they say jumpstyle is crap.
Since Scooter isn't populair here, people can be ashamed of it.
A friend of my used to be a Scooter fan. Now he hates it. I think this is only because of Scooter isn't popular here, and most people from my age, in my village listen to hardstyle. If you listen to something different that's weird and for some people not possible.
All my friends know that I'm a Scooter fan, and they accept that. Only some of them are a little angry about Scooter because of the Jumping All Over The World (single), aka the Headhunterz rip.

Actually they changed the melody of Rock Civilization a bit, and in the end the whole groove became more pumping than the Headhunterz' version :)

I know they changed it a bit, but that doesn't make it a original melody.

That's quite funny to read all this. It sounds like people from 15-18 yo reactions : )
In France, it's the opposite : If they know Scooter, they will only know ''Move your Ass'' or ''Hyper, Hyper'' but most of them are just saying : Who is it ?
My answer is just : you know, it's techno/trance/electronic music : /
