Today I donated 20 Euros.
And I saw that now you can also donate money via SMS. The SMS costs 2,99. 2,65 go to the victims and organizations.
Good to hear the news that also celebrities give money. The news say that Jackie Chan gave 64.000 US$ and Linkin Park gave 100.000 US$. I want to hear more news like that.

I am very shocked from the pictures and reports about this terrible disaster. I donated money today and i hope that many other people will donate some money too. I think that every euro (dollar, pound) is helpful.

It is indeed a dreadful disaster, and apart from those who are dead there is the devestaion left behind, and all those people who have lost loved ones.

I think any donation will help - but it will take a very long time for those affected to rebuild their lives.

You are right Hennes - we are lucky to live where we do, but disasters like this are a reminder just how powerful nature can be, and apart for maybe a little warning there is nothing we can do against its power.

I guess we can just help financially in anyway we can, pray for those affected and be thankful it is not us or our families out there

Today, me and my mom went shopping rockets for new years eve, and we donated 200 NOK (about 25 €) and we both felt very good about it, even it wasn't that much money.
But I wonder, has Scooter given a donation?? They should!

I think my government can give more though, because the economy hasnt been that bad these past few months. But I read in the paper today that a whole bunch of people have signed up for the peace corp. :D

3500 is very much since Sweden doesnīt have that much population.
Itīs been one week now. Maybe they managed to escape and are somewhere in a lonelier area so they couldnīt reach anybody and now theyīre trying to get to Bangkog or Phuket. I think every single person they find in the destroyed areas now that is still alive is a miracle :(

The Irish goverment has ( so far ) pledged 10 million Euro ( Hey, we're a small country )

If such a quake happened in the Atlantic Ocean, Ireland, a bit of England & America would be hit ( In short, as I'm from Ireland and it is small & my towns fairly near a beach, I'd be SCREWED! :? )

I'm quite stuned at the responce to the disaster by the public, I've donated 2 euro SO FAR ( I will donate more ) & I'm certain schools in my area will do something to help when we get back. They also have a good reason to do a Live Aid 20 now as well....

Like I said in a the Dance United thread, I'm thrilled to hear that Scooter & the others dance acts involved were so quick to announce the new charity single to help, i'll bet I'll buy it, if it actually reaches Ireland.....

By the way I must always think how lucky I am.
Siegen is not such a bad place to live. It might be boring sometimes.
BUT:
We donīt have earthquakes.
We donīt have heavy rain and resulting floods.
We donīt have tsunamis.
We donīt have hurricanes.
And w have enough food and clothes here.
Apparently thatīs all we can ask for.

Luck don't last forever, they say....

German TV, especially the news channels show many different documentaris about earthquakes and tsunamis. I think I learned quite a lot about it. The dangerous thing about tsunamis is that the whole water moves, not just the surface. Out on the Sea it is only 30 to 50 cm high so it doesnīt look dangerous at all. Only when it approaches the coast and the ground raises the wave gets higher and higher. And they said if a meteor like the one from Tunguska hits the ocean we would have a 500 meter high tsunami. :?
We must face it, the human race wonīt last forever. We can do nothing against meteors, earthquakes or tsunamis. We can only improve methods to predict them and run away if itīs possible.

Many from Norway are determed that we shall raise our foundings from EUR 12 000 000,- to
EUR 1 200 000 000,-! That's more than 5 times as much as USA has given.. Hopefully the people's voice will be heard. 1,2 billion Euro is a lot for a country with 4,6 million inhabitants.

Me and my girl gave 22 Euros yesterday.

this is a terrible tragedy and i find out things every day that disturb me like the weather people already knew about what was going to happen but didnt report it for fear of being sued by the tourist industry.

this is so scary and it can happen at anytime and closer to home too (europe) this article from our national paper -

Such huge and destructive quakes can happen at any time - and much closer to home.

Beneath Crete, there is a faultline similar to the one in Sumatra.

If there were a force 8 earthquake there, the sea surges would engulf the whole eastern end of the Mediterranean, including tourist spots like Corfu, Rhodes and Cyprus, killing thousands.

i gave the red cross all my xmas money i recieved - it wasnt much i wish i could give more

the worst thing is people in my town are ripping people off - there collecting in buckets for the tsunami but pocketing the money themselves - i think thats terrible

I'm afraid this is only a sign and the worst will come. Also apart from this kind of things, after death there is life!

I still wonder why is media so keen on reporting how tourists lives are and how many of them are safe/injured/dead. I don't mean that it wouldn't touch me but I think about more the local people there. 5,000 000 people without homes, food, job, closest people... And they cannot fly away from there to their home countries. They have to live there in the middle of the total chaos and added to that they have to care about tourism and tourists 'cause that's what brings them money to live.

Today in one Finnish paper it was said that the local people are a bit annoyed about searching people only from the places that are popular among tourists. All the other areas are not that interesting. That sounds very bad to me...
