No, it is not necessary (3)
I'm OK with Scooter not being on any social networks. It's not necessary for me. I wouldn't like to know what Rick had for breakfast nor would I want HP to ask fans to find a rhyme with "orange" for their newest track. I'm not interested in guys' life, I'm here only for the music
Just to be clear, I want them to utilize sites like twitter (the priority) and Facebook more frequently to build a closer relationship between the fans and the band. Twitter in particular as it's alot easier to respond to users wanting to contact their said favorite artist. And yeah, I suppose I am guilty of getting excited over something as trivial as being notified that who I'm following has updated their twitter with something completely random and often nonsensical - However, I still nonetheless enjoy the fact that the artists are, however small, acting like human beings instead of shadowy figures who forever remain a mystery to us. Nobodies talking about who ate what for breakfast... (I've seen two people wrongly assume that's what we're asking for when this topic comes up). We want updates on how things are going in the studio and quirky things that they've done or perhaps thought that makes us laugh. And for them to make the effort to respond to fans questions whether online or in person. It's all just one big load of fun and gives us a less impersonal insight into the artists lives.
Which I think is unfair sometimes
be sure I just want like occasional updates about albums or possible ideas the boys have for music. If they wanted to post personal stuff then that would be fine too. But something other than " Tour was great, album soon" every 2 years!
In a way the posts Michael made on his myspace were like that, and they worked and kept us discussing

i would rather the main site just be ontime with news, and not be two days later all the time
