Myths about your country - true or false.

Every country has its specific culture and also some myths about other countries. For example ukranians think that english people don't download films or music from pirate sites as they find it offensive or smth. Is it true?
Riding with me is my friend R.J.Jordan,
Knowing the rules aint part of his program,
Finding the right tune that fits the track,
Might be pretty hard cuz he's f_cked on crack!

Start the match and find the station
Reach what you can and party the nation,
A? Hey! Whatcha gonna say?
I automate the sequence and speed for my getaway
Take it to the edge, there's nowhere to hide,
And call up the crew; let's go for a joyride!

Let's go for a joyride!

I've never thought Hungary was prejudiced based on skin colour.

You did admit to me though that Hungary was vastly behind on LGBT issues. They appear to be lagging behind Western Europe in terms of both social attitudes and progress on issues such as marriage, adoption and gender identity. The lack of initiative to legalize and in some cases recognize genuine medical conditions is definitely indicative of some underlying homophobia/transphobia. Certainly not you, but Hungary as a whole has some serious re-thinking to do.

We Brits are just as guilty as everyone else.

That's only me, I can't speak for my whole nation actually.

There's only one group of people that we all hate, and those are our politicians :D

Well in America, we do this all the time, we don't like to admit it cause its illegal. But, we do it all the time.

There are lot of myths I can dispel about america. But where to begin....

1. We don't eat McDonald's all the time. A lot of us find the food okay. I myself think its disgusting...but thats me.

2. The majority of us hate Bush....he was a moron!! :cursing:

3. Not all of us are ignorant of other cultures, they do teach us about the world. Its just that the tourist Europeans (etc) tend to meet are stupid and disrespectful ones who give us a bad name.

4. Not all of us are warmongers in fact a lot of people here hated the war in Iraq and Iran etc. There were many protests against it in fact.

5. We are very friendly and welcoming to strangers.

If anyone has any other myths / questions about American culture please ask me! I will answer any question!

I do have one question for the Brits out there: Is it true at your Parliament meetings all they do is yell and scream at/ over one another?

And one of the Russians/ Ukrainians: Is the heavy drinking stereotype true? I have read 2 or 3 articles about how many russian/ ukrainian males are dying from deaths related to Alcohol?

The only disturbing thing about the United States for me is its fervent religiosity. It's quite frightening! Especially considering the Founding Fathers decreed it unconstitutional to have religion be so pervasive in government.

The Germans do have humor, its just a very, very different style. Otto for example is a funny German comedian. ^^

But anyways, to be really ontopic, here are some fun facts about Hungary :)

- YES, we are proud of our culinary & drinking culture. We have excellent wines and the traditional hungarian Pálinka, which is famous worldwide :) Not to mention the goulash.

- SOME of us do drive cars like crazy, but not everyone ;)

- YES, we're also very proud of our history. Especially our nomad hordes razing half of Europe back around AD 900.

- NO, we don't steal consumer products and hotel towels when on vacation

- YES, we are one of the most Internet-addicted nations in the World

- unfortunately YES, our salaries are very badly combined with our tax-system

Yeah, that's the problem. :D

It's the oldies that control and regulate policy.

And that comes with a whole lot of undesirable consequences.

Well, we have a lot of alcoholics, especially in the villages, but not so much more than in another countries I think... especially in Britain I think :)) because we saw here some photo-reports from London weekends after the sunset and there was pure hell. All youth are drunk, they piss right at the streets and puke right there too... :-O All streets are filled with garbage and everything looks so wrong. Hey, British people, is it true? I was shocked when I saw these reports :-O I always thought that British people are prudish and polite like Sherlock Holmes :))) ...and then I saw all these photo-reports :-O :-D

It fits more to Ukraine, imo :))) They've even got some fights there :)) In Russia in the middle of 90's was something like this too in parliament.

Can't say I enjoy watching BBC Parliament all that much... That MAY shock you. :P

But yes, sometimes opposing parties on either side will yell at each other.

Did you get this from Ali G by any chance?

No I was watching the BBC and I saw this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsAa9VmwOaI. and I thought, how the hell does anything get done in England? Not that the US gov is any faster. lol

No this is not true, only if you touch her or start saying rude sexual things to her. You can look all you want, but if you look for a long time and stare, she will think you are insane. 8|

2. The majority of us hate Bush....he was a moron!! :cursing:
That gives us 1 thing in common :D :P

Hm, well, Norway...

1. It's said we're born with skiis on our feet. It might have been true about our older generations, but not today.
I personally dislike skiing, but that's me. I don't have the interest of it, outside watching the winter olympics :P

2. We're known for wearing only "home-made" clothes of wool, skiing to our cottages and on mountains every Easter.
Alot of us have a cottage, which we go to now and then, many of us wear home-made wool clothes and go skiing, but few are like the rumor say.

3. All Norwegians are said to be blonde and blue-eyed. This isn't true, we're just as variated as all western Europeans.

I don't remember more right now, but ask if ya wonder :)

So we have ageism ..... At what age should people "kick the bucket" ..... And are at least presumably considered "old" and out of touch with life?

1.Ukrainian Parliament is the main shame of the country. It looks like Middle Ages when you watch them "making" laws.... As for ukrainian culture, it's something noir period we live now.

2.The Flying Dutchman - I've never understood that spesific German humour. :P The best you, germans, can make is your cars, music, sport clothes and porn. )))) BTW I know that prostitution is legalised in Germany and it goes with the annual benefit of 8 milliards Euro fro your economy.
