I also liked some Slipknot stuff even though I'm not any fan. But they made good music. What might be the reason for his death? Drugs? :( I don't know him at all but as policemen said that he was living in the hotel he was found... That sounds a bit odd IMO... R.I.P. in any case. :( Sad news. :(

I'm totally f'ucked up today... S'hit. X(

He wasn't living in the hotel room, he just stayed there for 2 days ;) On the day they found him, he actually was supposed to check out. Normally he lives with his wife just like a normal guy.

The autopsy didn't brought any results. So now everyone has to wait for the results of the toxicological tests, which will arrive in a few weeks. Drugs may have played a role. He was addicted years ago, but actually was sober for the last couple of years I think. And I remember reading a blog entry he posted last Christmas, where he said that he's the happiest man alive because his wife told him that she's pregnant and that he's so excited and thanked everyone for the amazing last tour and stuff.

I'm still in a very depressed mood. Gray's dead touches me more than I thought it would. And it may appears strange to others that I feel so, but to me Slipknot was way more than just a favourite band. They are more like a philosophy or a way of life and helped me through so much trouble. And without #2 (Paul) nothing's going to be the same again, if they continue at all. Without ever having met him, I miss him. His personal background makes it even more tragic. Maybe it's strange but that's just the way it is...

Ok, thanks for the info. ;) These are always very sad news and make one think... :S

And i can believe you feel very sad now T!M. ;( ;( ;( They have been important to you. I can imagine very well... ;( ;( You have any idea will they continue making music or is it totally impossible to them now? He was the founder of the band, right? He's pretty impossible to replace... ;( ;(

These news make me scared a bit... :S :S

Yep, he was one of the founders and one of the main songwriters, too.

I have absolutely no clue, if they're continuing without him. There's been no single word about it so far, but I can truly understand it. Right now, I guess, they're still in shock and have to deal with the loss of a brother. Plus there's still going to be the funeral. After that there's going to be enough time to think about the band's future. There wouldn't have been a new album before 2012 anyway.

For me personally it's hard to imagine the band without him. They always said they're like brothers and I think one could see that really well on the press conference. They were just devastated. And keeping a nine-piece band together for 12 years without any members changing is quite an accomplishment I think. Maybe they're just going to hire a touring bassist or "replace" him with someone from within the Slipknot-Camp they already know for a long time. But I don't think they going to have a new player, who didn't have anything to do with the band before. But time will tell what happens...

Yeah... Let's see what happens... Did you see them ever live on the stage? I've seen one gig on TV. I have no idea if they have ever been in Finland or not. I don't have their albums or so but if they play their music on radio I really enjoy it and maybe I could buy some album(s) too. ;)

It's very sad that so many rock stars have left recently. ;( ;( ;( That makes me worry really... :S

Nope, unfortunately I wasn't able to see them live in the past, but that definitely was one of my dreams, to see them live on stage. I got their DVDs and have seen a lot of gigs via youtube, MTV, etc. and their shows were one hell of a ride :D So damn spectacular and energetic. Especially their older one's are insane, when they starting punching each other or set themselves on fire onstage. Here's a video of a more recent performance, but that definitely belongs to my favourites. When Joey's drum kit starts rising and then flips over....amazing. And I looove Corey's voice. 8o

yea, you should really check out their albums. Each one of them is a pure masterpiece and they're all very different to each other.

Definitely the last months have been very sad for the metal business. The Rev, Peter Steele, Ronnie James Dio and now Paul Gray....really a lot of amazing people and musicans have passed. Hopefully that doesn't continue....

My fave song is Psychosocial from them. :P It's also played on the radio pretty much here. ;)

They are crazy with their masks... :D :D OMG! I'm not sure if I'd like to see them live! LOL!!! :D :D But the music is pretty cool. 8) I don't think that kind of band would ever become my fave band though. But it is something you one listen to. ;)

We have had times really recently... And this was the most unexpected. ;( He was pretty young guy though, just 38. Ronny James Dio had cancer so that was more expected at least... About Peter Steele I don't know. He had heart attack, right? That is always unexpected. My dad was 45 when he died of heart attack... :S

Very sorry to hear that, Cassy :S

Yes, Peter Steele had a heart attack. He was 48 I think. That was also the first cause of death I thought of when I heard about #2's death. But right now it really seems that drugs were involved. A website relesed the phone call the hotel woker made to the police when he found Gray. He's talking about a hypodermic needle and a bottle of pills and how Paul looked. I shivered when I heard that call. Pretty scary...

But the response from other bands is overwhelming. Everyone's saying what a great musician Paul was and that he was the nicest and friendliest one out there and is sorely missed. Munky from KoRn (they're on the same level as Slipknot to me) said that he and the other KoRn-members are going to attend his funeral in a few days. Great to see this friendship and respect between everyone.

The masks are...brilliant :D I love them and how they evolved through the years. Couldn't imagine Slipknot without them. :D

yes, Psychosocial is one of their more radio-friendly songs :D Nevertheless it's a brilliant one. I love the more aggressive voice in the verses and then the melodic clean voice in the refrain. Plus the breakdown is amazing  Corey Taylor is really one of the best singers out there and an amazing songwriter. One of the best of our time IMO. Plus he's a working animal. That guy's got 2 bands running, plus his own solo stuff, plus the things he's doing for others, plus he's writing a book and has a family...insane :D Can't wait for the new Stone Sour record btw

I have no idea if they have ever been in Finland or not.

I think they had two big gigs here just last year! ;)

Yes, agree, they're a rather interesting band, and their shows are crazy. Never seen them myself, but I've seen videos. (Just saw the one T!M linked -- the drummer is insane, it doesn't affect him at all how he's upside down. 8o) I like the masks too, they're great. I remember following the situation eagerly when the newest masks were first shown when All Hope Is Gone was coming. No idea what's going to happen with the band now...

My favourite Slipknot songs are probably Only One and Vermilion Pt. 2.

T!M, you really sound like a HUGE Slipknot fan! I really wish they could still consider continuing with the band but I don't know... :S After these tragical happenings it can be impossible... ;(

So they've been in Finland! Ok! 8) I didn't know that. I'm not THAT much into their music that I'd go to see them I think... But, the gigs must have been amazing experiences for fans. ;)

It's just come to my attention that a very close friend of mine was viscously assaulted on her way home the other day. She was a little tipsy from a fun night out, and whilst making her way back home, she was surrounded and hit by three sadistic drunken blokes. Before hurting her she said they shouted homophobic abuse, and targeted her because of her sexual orientation. I've never felt so freakin' disgusted in all of my life... Not only did they attack a defenseless young girl, they admittedly targeted her solely because of her sexuality. Pleading with her to report this incident so the police can work to catch these basta'rds has failed, as she doesn't want to play the victim and she's pretty sure there are no other witnesses or cameras that could have captured it. I respect her decision, but I would feel safer knowing these cowardly imbeciles are charged or something. The thought of them getting away with this and targeting someone else repulses me. :cursing:

Argh! I just feel so helpless and frustrated. Who the hell does that!? I know homophobia is still an issue in our society, but you never think something like this is going to happen to you or a friend of yours. As selfish as it sounds, I'm kinda concerned about my safety now-- particularly because it all took place in my hometown. On the bright side though, she's said that the incident has left her feeling prouder than ever about who she is and what she represents. At least there's some consolation to be found in this despicable mess.... I hope her bravery in handling this situation rubs off on me.

That's very sad to hear... :( it's great though, to hear she's fine, and "stronger"/more certain about herself than she was :)
It's unbelieveable to think about, that a part of this so-called "civilized" society still can't accept the fact that some people are different, be it sexual orientation, way of thinking/being or else  :cursing:
And, that they have the guts to actually express their stone-age-levelled opinions in such a disgusting way...

Definitely Arve! :)

Her auntie is a strong proponent of LGBT rights and regularly supports the pride parades that take place across the country. I think she wants to be just as passionate and dedicated-- with this event seemingly reinforcing her determination to make the world a safer place for everyone under the LGBT umbrella. She's invited me to a few events, and I'm eager to lend my support to a group of tremendously kind strangers who accept anyone for who they are. The hated and phobia still present toward this innocent community is baffling to say the least. I can't blame her for feeling greatly impassioned from such a blatantly hateful attack based on her sexuality. Homophobia and other forms of senseless ignorance needs to be combated diligently, and brave people like her need to be commended. Bless her.

I still think she's a little shaken up about it. What I wouldn't do to hit one of those cowardly punks....

Yeah, that happens, and sucks... It's difficult to understand how it's even possible. I have to admit I'd probably act the same way she did: I wouldn't report it to the police because I don't believe they could or would do anything. They're overworked here as it is, and their resources are constantly reduced. (Which I don't get since they're needed more than before!) I might try a personal retaliation though, find them and destroy some of their property -- like a car. :D Not ethical maybe, but neither were they...

Hah, it's here too... the police constantly get less and less money for resources, while the need for them just grows...
Meanwhile, harassment like May's friend experienced, still goes on, though you would think we're civilized enough nowadays to accept eachother as we are. Hah, civilized community my ass...

Such people makes me sick and ashamed of being a human being X(
