DJ Mag Top 100 2006

1 Paul van Dyk - PVD has retained his crown as the world’s number one DJ in 2006. The German trancer remains top dog for the second year running.

2 Armin van Buuren - After spending three years at No.3, Dutch trance star Armin has beaten the mighty Tiësto to second place. His hard work continues to pay off.

3 Tiësto - Three times No.1 DJ Tiësto remains one of the world’s biggest spinners, capable of filling stadiums with his epic Dutch trance sounds.

4 Christopher Lawrence - North American trance don Lawrence is leading the scene Stateside and is increasingly present on the global stage. He’s climbed up 10 places since last year.

5 DJ Dan - US jock Dan wins the ‘Highest House DJ’ accolade this year. Although something of a dark horse in Europe, in the States he’s huge.

6 Ferry Corsten - Ferry has had a number of big hits over the years, and 2006 was a great year for him - his album received critical acclaim the world over.

7 Sasha - Sasha is the highest placed British DJ in this year’s poll, and still one of the world’s biggest. He played at Sonar in Barcelona for the first time in 2006.

8 Digweed - Diggers has been in the Top 10 for years, and has constantly strived to inject new sounds into his sets. He’s a true renaissance man.

9 Above & Beyond - The DJ/production trio are one of the main acts breathing new life into the trance scene. It’s no surprise they have finally broken into the Top 10.

10 Deep Dish - The Washington-based duo fill clubs the world over, and have won many awards over the years whilst remixing the likes of Madonna.

First of all... I don't like this list at all. Except for Lawrence's 4th place. But what do you think?

I don't like the list either, honestly I don't know if I ever have. PvD on top? Definitely not. Never really liked him and probably never will.

Brisk, Scott Brown and Neophyte are missing from the list, so does Kai Tracid. They would all deserve being in the top-100. Indeed, Scott Brown would also deserver a place in the top-10

Bah, I don't care - this is a commercial list for commercial people :P

You know. I noticed those too. It seems that everyone who playes harder stuff is now gone. Yoji and Lisa Lashes are there just barely... Even though I don't like harder stuff so much I want something else than just best house/trance-dj contest...

Indeed, Scott Brown and Neophyte need to be there. And Yoji is too low imo.

Man, hardcore is getting so underground that people even stop voting for them.

It's not getting more underground. It's just that these newbies who really don't know about anything votes more and more. Result is that except house and trance disappears from the list. And that is pretty sad IMO.

Maybe DJ Mag should become what is originally was. Just dj's voted back then...

You Guys know, that the most played Electronic Genres are Trance & House in commercial Clubs??? So no wonder, that the hard Guys are not placed high in the charts...

And when I'm right, fans can vote for that charts... so don't cry guys and vote next time for your favourites :P

What I wonder about, is that Sven Väth is not under the top ten. He is normally always in top-positions..
And what I also wonder about is that Wetsbam is hardly voted in such lists. He is known over the world, one of the best payed DJs and his gigs are mostly everytime sold out. Ok, his productions are very "strange" for commercial minds in some ways in the last years, but he still one of the trendsetters in electronic-music.

i've read he is too arrogant and he lives in a world where he is the king of techno, maybe thats why people dont admire him the way he deserves.

Very bad list.
I don't like PvD and the others in the Top Ten except Tiesto, Above & Beyond and Ferry Corsten. They are cool, the others are bad.
But where are Scot Project, DuMonde, Kai Tracid and Tomcraft? They are much better.

You knowm it is very surprising that Tracid isn't in the list. He even was one of the biggest gainers last year.

How the f*ck does DJ Sammy keep sneaking into these lists? He sticks out like a sore thumb.

This list is just getting worse and worse. Armin is clearly the best DJ in the scene, and fucktard wannabees that have nothing to do with the scene go out and vote for fucking DJ Sammy, or Tiesto just because he has his name on a pair of fucking sneakers. I love trance, but this list is way too dominated by it (and increasingly more commercial trance). For diversity's sake it needs some harder stuff, but its almost all wiped out now. Chances are this list will be largely vetoed next year.

And Jonas Steur not getting somewhere in the top 100 is a fucking joke. Kidders like DJ Dan getting 5th place is a fucking joke as well.

One positive is that Above & Beyond hit the top 10. Greatly deserved.
